The America Nepal Society (ANS) monthly Meet & Greet event, held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, was a resounding success, featuring distinguished guests and speakers who added a dynamic element to the gathering.

The event kicked off with ANS President Sujeet Aryal providing an overview of the ANS activities in 2023, emphasizing their significant contributions. Rakesh Dhungel, the ANS Treasurer, presented a detailed report on the annual income and expenses, focusing on the financial aspects of fundraising events and the support extended to the initiatives of Friends of Nepal.

Following the recap of ANS’s annual activities, speakers from diverse backgrounds shared their narratives. Richard Sellers highlighted the efforts of Friends of Nepal, detailing the projects supported through the annual grant and beyond. Shreedhar Kandel, a CPA, shared updates from the IRS and offered advice on handling IRS correspondence.

Manohar Shrestha, the President of Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye (NPPA), outlined the organization’s activities in 2023 and unveiled plans for 2024. Dr. Arjun Banjade, the President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), National Coordination Council, USA, discussed the challenges faced by Nepali expatriates concerning NRN Citizenship/NRN ID issued by the Government of Nepal.

Manju Sangraula Karki provided insights into the monthly services offered by the Himalaya Free Clinic in Chantilly, VA, highlighting its positive impact on the community. Professor Gopi Uprety shared details about his recently published book, “Ecosociocentrism: The Earth First Paradigm for Sustainable Living” by Springer Nature, with additional information available in a video.

Pradip Dhakal, a third-term Council Member at the Town of Herndon, VA, expressed appreciation for the work of various organizations, emphasized the importance of community participation in the political process, and explained his decision to run for the Mayor’s office this year. Adrian Pokharel, who is aspiring for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, recounted his journey from being a student to serving in the military and shared his story of candidacy.
